How Dalgona Coffee is Made?


Ever since the lockdown period started due to the coronavirus pandemic, people have been trying out new things. Out of all, the dalgona coffee or whipped coffee is one of those recipes that went viral over the internet. Almost everyone tried making this beverage once in their houses. People who are fans of tea and never preferred coffee also gave this drink a try. The reason for this popularity is the fact that dalgona coffee looks exceptionally good and tastes even better. So even if you like tea, you can give this a try while your tea is getting brewed.




If you still haven’t tried it, you are missing out on an absolutely delicious coffee variation. For your help, here are a few different recipes for making the dalgona coffee. You can choose any of them as per your preferences and enjoy it. So let’s get started.

#1 The Classic Dalgona Coffee

Dalgona coffee was previously known as the whipped coffee because you need to whip the coffee with sugar to prepare it. However, its name got changed when a South Korean actor, Jung Il-woo, ordered this coffee in Macau. He found its taste to be similar to a Korean honeycomb toffee named Dalgona. Hence, the new name came up.


If you want to make a glass of classic dalgona coffee, you will need the following ingredients:

● Instant Coffee - 2 TBSP

● Sugar - 2 TBSP (You can opt for healthier alternatives like coconut sugar or fruit sugar)

● Milk - 1 Glass (You can also opt for vegan milk variants)

● Ice (Optional)

● Hot Water - 2 TBSP

You can easily find all these ingredients in your kitchen. Once you have grabbed them all, you can follow the steps:

Step 1: Take a large mixing bowl and add coffee, sugar, and water into it.

Step 2: Whip the mixture till the stiff peaks form. This may take some time depending on the quantity of coffee and sugar you have taken. Be patient on this step because leaving the mixture under-whipped will ruin the taste of the coffee.

Step 3: Add the milk and ice into a glass. Remember to leave some space on the top of the glass. Otherwise, your coffee will spill from it.

Step 4: Pour your coffee and sugar mixture onto the cold milk and serve it.

In case you want a Dalgona latte, you can replace your cold milk with hot milk. Also, don’t use the ice.

#2 Tea Dalgona Latte

If you just can’t avoid drinking your favorite tea, this variation of Dalgona coffee is for you. It will give you a soothing taste of tea without missing out on the classic Dalgona. For this, you will need the following ingredients:

● Teabag - 1 (any of your choice)

● Instant Coffee - 2 TBSP

● Sugar - 2 TBSP

● Cinnamon Powder - A Pinch (Optional)

● Milk - 1 Glass

● Hot Water - 2 TBSP

After getting all the ingredients in one place, you can start preparing your tea Dalgona latte by following the below steps:

Step 1: Prepare the whipped coffee and sugar mixture just like the classic Dalgona and keep it aside.

Step 2: Steam a glass of milk and put your teabag into it. Let it steep for 5 minutes. This time can vary according to the tea you have chosen. You can prepare the tea into milk as you usually do or as it is directed by the manufacturer.

Step 3: Once the tea is ready, pour your Dalgona mixture onto it.

Step 4: Sprinkle a pinch or two of cinnamon powder on it and serve hot.

You can also create a cold version of this by cooling down the prepared tea. You can then also add ice to it.

#3 Chocolate Hazelnut Dalgona

When you want to add a little extra flavor to your classic Dalgona, this option is for you. This will have a little taste of hazelnut and chocolate in it. So you can comfort your chocolate craving with Dalgona. Here are the ingredients required for this variant:

● Instant Coffee - 2 TBSP

● Sugar - 2 TBSP

● Milk - 1 Glass

● Hot water - 2 TBSP

● Ice (Optional)

● Chocolate Hazelnut Spread

● Hazelnut - 1 TBSP (Finely chopped)

● Chocolate Shavings - 1 TBSP (You can get dark or milk chocolate shavings according to your preference, or you can replace this with choco chips)

Once you have everything with you, you can follow a few simple steps to prepare this coffee.

Step 1: Mix coffee, sugar, chocolate hazelnut spread, and hot water into a big bowl. The result should be the same stiff peaks, but the colour will change due to the chocolate hazelnut spread.

Step 2: Pour cold milk into the glass and put some ice into it.

Step 3: Carefully pour the Dalgona mixture onto the cold milk.

Step 4: Add a little chocolate hazelnut spread, chopped hazelnut, and chocolate shavings onto the top, and serve.


If you don’t like hazelnut, you can replace the spread with a simple chocolate spread or cocoa powder.

#4 Black Forest Dalgona Mocha

This chocolate and cherry-infused coffee is nothing less than a delight to your taste buds. To prepare it, you need to following ingredients:

● Hot Chocolate Mix - 2-3 TBSP

● Milk - 1 Glass

● Cherry Syrup - 1 Pump

● Instant Coffee - 2 TBSP

● Sugar - 2 TBSP

● Hot Water - 2 TBSP

● Ice (Optional)

After putting all ingredients on the kitchen counter, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Prepare the classic Dalgona whipped mixture with instant coffee, sugar, and water, and keep it aside.

Step 2: Steam ¼ cup of your milk and dissolve the hot chocolate powder into it.

Step 3: Add the cherry syrup into hot milk.

Step 4: Pour this cherry and hot chocolate mix into the rest of the milk. Remember to keep the remaining milk cold and add ice into it.

Step 5: Pour the prepared milk into the glass and top it with the classic Dalgona mixture.

You can also add some chocolate syrup and a maraschino cherry on the top of the prepared coffee.
